Gold sold off on hot inflation, then rebounded as dollar and yields eased

Oro in calo dopo l’inflazione calda, poi rimbalzo con dollaro e rendimenti in calo

Hot inflation briefly fueled rate-hike fears and pressed gold toward the ~$4,100 zone before a rebound. A softer dollar and easier yields backed precious metals; silver was volatile too.

As hot CPI briefly priced a “higher for longer” rate path, gold futures came under pressure and traded toward—or briefly through—the ~$4,100 zone. A softer dollar and easing Treasury yields then supported a rebound from those lows.

Coverage around Oct 15 put gold futures roughly in the ~$4,166–$4,195 area, with some reports citing day moves near +2%. The tape shifted from “inflation → higher real rates weigh on gold” to “easier yields and a softer dollar give precious metals room to recover.”

Silver was also volatile in the same inflation scare—often moving with gold but with more beta. For precious-metals watches, pair futures (e.g. GC) with spot/ETF proxies (e.g. GLD) and keep an eye on the dollar and the 10-year yield intraday.

Reading notes

  • Separate the data-shock print from the later yield/dollar easing; a close alone can hide the path.
  • Gold and silver betas differ—silver usually swings harder; do not treat percentage moves as interchangeable.
  • Daily cached precious-metals quotes sit on the Futures page.
